Sometimes back pain can be more than just a nagging problem; it can be life altering. Nearly everyone at some point has back pain that interferes with work, routine daily activities or recreation. This type of acute or short-term back pain generally last for a few days or weeks. But, there is also a large group of people who suffer from chronic back pain caused by trauma that persists more than 3 months and often a lifetime.
TJ Mahen, a former US soldier from the 2nd Airborne Division in the army is unfortunately one of those who suffer from chronic back pain due to an injury he suffered while training. Relax The Back was fortunate to be introduced to TJ through Peter Shankman.
We recently reached out to author, entrepreneur and blogger Peter Skankman, who regularly sits long hours in front of his computer for periods of time and on the weekends enjoys an active lifestyle of skydiving and triathlons. For years Peter has experienced back pain, so we provided him am ergonomic office chair and standup desk to help with this daily pain and discomfort. After seeing a significant improvement in his back pain, we provided the same chair, a Lifeform High Back Executive Chair for one of his readers to win through is blog. See post here
The winning story came from Tracy Mehan, the wife of TJ. He had been in the army for four years with constant, rigorous training. He had just passed the board review tests to become a non-commissioned officer, and was quickly progressing in his career. Just before his official promotion, TJ, was injured in a night jump out of a plane and broke 8 vertebrae in his back and lost 3 inches in height from the spinal compression. It is a miracle that he is not paralyzed but he now lives in pain and discomfort everyday, being forced to work from home.
We were so moved by the story that we not only provided them the Lifeform Executive Chair, but awarded them with a Tempur-Pedic mattress with an adjustable base and the Human Touch Silhouette Zero Gravity Perfect Chair to provide extra comfort as he moved forward with his new career.
Since receiving the items TJ’s back pain has lessoned, allowing him to work and sleep in more comfort than ever before. Talking about the products, TJ’s stated, “I never allowed myself such luxuries before, but now having experienced the difference they can make I realize they are not luxuries at all, but therapeutic.” TJ also wanted to acknowledge the other veterans out there who suffer from service related injuries, “Many who have had far worse injuries than me. I am truly grateful to all that serve and have served.”
We are happy that we could bring a little extra comfort into TJ’s daily life, and hope to continue to aid more people plagued by constant back and neck pain in the future.
